Introduction
Anna Hume, who may have played a major part in the publication of her father David Hume's The History of the Houses of Douglas and Angus (Edinburgh, 1644) and who seems to have had some connection with the literary circle of William Drummond of Hawthornden, is noted especially for her verse translation of the first three books of Petrarch's Trionfi. Published as The Triumphs of Love, Chastitie, Death (Edinburgh, 1644), this was dedicated to Princess Elizabeth, daughter of Elizabeth, Queen of Bohemia.
Apart from one autograph letter by her (*HuA 1), however, no manuscript writings by Anna Hume have been recorded.
